Great product, however the main mechanism is a flimsy plastic tab. With daily use it will last approximately one year. My second pedal has just broke, and am contemplating whether it is worth it to buy a third, as each of the two previous pedals broke after one year.

I bought one of these in 2005 and after the carpenter spent a while figuring it out, he was able to install it and it was great -- so easy to open the trash and keep the kitchen clean. The directions are terrible. If I have to install it myself I'll use google translate for the german directions.
I got one for my mom's kitchen too and she loves it. She had her carpenter cut the hinge on her exposed hinges, so it looks like a regular cabinet that swings open, when it's secretly the trash pull out. He also added a wooden piece to the kickplate to make it blend in more.
We tried it in another house where we installed inset cabinets and there was no way to make it work.
I am back to buy another one as I have moved and have overlay cabinets again.

Works great. You attach the spring to the floor of the cabinet box... it takes some experimentation to place it properly, so the drawer doesn't slide out too quickly or too far.
Otherwise works great. A great gift for the clean-freak in your life. Now, I have 2 and we never have to touch the trash drawers.
Works when trash bins are full, and drawer is heavy. So far, no problems.

This product came with german language instructions. My builder installed but it kept kicking the drawer open whenever we shut it. After adjustments it works much better but not perfect.
